Today I went with a friend to Dorian Grey's pop up gallery in the east village to view the exhibition of Megan Green and Edwina White's drawings and collages. I have to admit, probably naively, I hadn't heard of either artist previously, aside from the fact that my friend owns one of White's pieces. However, Edwina White's imaginative illustrations appealed to me enormously. They seemed to be both old fashioned and contemporary in nature, they evoked memories in me of childish doodling yet they have a distinct air of sophistication about them. Mostly humorous, there were a few portraits that seemed to have darker, more mysterious undertones to them. If only I had a few thousand dollars to spare, they were the sort of pieces I would love to plaster all over my oversized downstairs loo (if ever I were to acquire one of those!)
