A Sunny Friday's Work

Finally we had some sunshine today so the light in my studio was much better and therefore so was my mood! Unfortunately, as it's now dark, I think the colours in these photos are a little off but you'll have to forgive me. I went back to the three paintings I did last week to continue with them once the oils had dried enough to work over the surface again. Here is the seascape, it has changed quite a bit -

I haven't thought of a name yet but this painting reminds me of my ferry ride back from Governer's Island a couple of months ago where the view over towards the Brooklyn shoreline was suddenly obscured by a huge storm coming in from the northwest.

The second one, more of emotion based piece, is probably my favourite and definitely reflects my mood this week! I ended up rotating it twice whilst I was painting before I was happy with it's orientation and composition but I particularly like the textures and interplay between the various abstract shapes.

It's Raining, it's Pouring

Today is so dark and dreary and I'm feeling very uninspired. First thing this morning I went out to the farmers market to capture some photos before all the stalls disappear for winter but it really was terrible light so I didn't get much of use. Unfortunately since then it's been gloomy and raining all day which does not lend itself much to painting! I think I need to invest in some good lighting if this is how it's going to be for the next 6 months until summer reappears! I did, however, manage to finish the painting below "Don't Rain on my Blackberry" (click HERE to see the finished product) but other than that I've been mainly thinking about making a Christmas cake...

Cityscapes Continued

Another rainy day in the city! This one is definitely the light after the storm though, when the sun emerges from behind that big rain cloud after that mid summer storm.

Cityscapes

"Blue Monday" 6x6, acrylic and graphite on board
Here's one from my cityscape series I'm working on currently. I love it's sketchy feel which contributes to the rain like effect and atmosphere in the painting. It's not of any city in particular although when I look at it I think of London which must be lodged somewhere in my subconscious having lived there for 4 years!
