Back to Work

After a busy few weeks preparing the RAW show, the event came and went last Thursday night and was great fun. It was good to learn how to put a show like that together and now I'm looking forward to hopefully doing more events like it in the future. It was nerve wrecking putting my work out there for scrutiny but great to make new contacts and hopefully gain some more fans, plus I sold a few things as well so that's a bonus! You can see some images from the show here on my Facebook page.

Now I'm  back in the studio working on finishing a commission before I leave for an extended break in the UK and Jersey next week. This commission is for a duo of Jersey based paintings. Here was a sketch I did yesterday but we have decided to actually paint this lighthouse from a different angle for the final piece…

RAW Brooklyn New York Show July 30th

I'm very excited to announce that I will be participating in a showcase at the Wick in Bushwick, New York at the end of the month. I was approached a few months ago by the director of RAW Brooklyn to see if I'd be interested in showing my work. RAW is an international community of creative individuals around the world who target artists in the first 10 years of their career and curate a one night, multi-genre showcase extravaganza!

So, I will be showing some of my recent paintings alongside a host of other talented individuals. You can read more about RAW here. I love their philosophy of making it easier for each artist to get their work out there and part of that is the way they get you to cover your "booth fees". Usually at this sort of event the artist is expected to shell out a hefty fee to pay for their space. Also, the venue often takes a commission on anything sold. However, RAW encourages each artist to sell 20 tickets in the run up to the show - thereby achieving 2 goals in 1 - covering their fee and also getting more punters through the door. They reduce the cost of the ticket to just $15 if you buy online rather than at the door. Online tickets are only available until July 23rd after that, it's $20 at the door and it doesn't count towards supporting me.

So people, get buying..... to support me and purchase your ticket follow this link....

The Pen & Brush Art Day Extravaganza

I recently discovered  the organisation The Pen & Brush, Inc. which was established 117 years ago and is still going strong today. They are an international membership organisation for woman in the arts and yesterday they held a one day event which included both visual and literary artists. They are located a short walk from my apartment in Greenwich Village, New York which is very convenient in an absolutely beautiful building, anyway, I digress. It was a great event with a lovely variety of work and I was just sad that I couldn't stay for longer as I had to go and do important things like selecting and decorating our Christmas tree!

Here's a shot of my knotted gun study hanging in the gallery.

First Juried Exhibition!

I have just found out that I have been accepted into my first juried show! Two of my flower series paintings are going to be shown in a show themed "Nature" at the Linus Gallery in Pasadena, California. I'm so excited to be in my first group exhibition I still can't quite believe it. It's really boosted my confidence, finally something else to put on my resume under "exhibitions"! The show opens on Saturday the 22nd October and the gallery is open by appointment after that. Now I just have to figure out how to get the paintings there...
